Counselling can be a life-changing experience, but it takes time and can be challenging. It’s also important to have an open mind and realistic expectations. Therapy is not a quick fix – it is a process and with a strong relationship with your counsellor, it can be a successful tool towards a positive way of living.
Usually, people choose to have counselling because they are experiencing distress in their lives or struggles with their mental health. Life issues and events can be difficult to manage such as bereavement, divorce, redundancy, health issues and stress. You may be experiencing underlying feelings of dissatisfaction with life in general, or be seeking balance in your life. Our counsellors can work with people facing all kinds of challenges and move towards finding their own solutions. You may also prefer to have counselling online, over the phone or face to face (Available in Cardiff). Everyone is different and some people feel they can open up more in the comfort of their own home.
The assessment lasts approximately 30 minutes and takes place with one of our counsellors, who will ask you questions about what your current concerns are. Whilst they are doing this, they will be thinking about what sort of talking therapy could work well for you, based on what you tell them.
The idea at this session is not to ‘open up’ the concerns that you have, but for you to tell a little bit about your background and the situation(s) that have led up to you contacting us. This, together with any previous experience of counselling that you have had, will help us to match you to a therapist – best suited to your needs. We want to get it right for you so that you have a good relationship and experience, which will help you to achieve your goals. Depending on your preference and availability, the assessment could take place online, over the phone or in Cardiff.
