Hello, I’m Karen. I am a qualified Systemic counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I work systemically by helping clients to explore the connections and behaviours within relationships, and the ‘system’ you are within. Depending on a person’s needs, I draw from different modalities including Creative Counselling interventions, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness. Being creative by nature, I can help you to explore life’s difficulties, and opportunities for change, by finding the right approach that works best for you.
Life brings many challenges, where events or relationships feel overwhelming, difficulties can be hard to get on top of, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose. Counselling is a safe, confidential space, where I listen with sensitivity and empathy, without judgement. Together we can explore and reflect on the thoughts, feelings, and challenges that you are facing in your life and make sense of what you are experiencing. Looking at situations in depth can offer greater insights – and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. For example, relationships, living with anxious thoughts, mood swings or depression, bereavement or loss, being unable to cope with a situation, loneliness, stress or new opportunities.
My core values are honesty, trust, loyalty and kindness, together with mutual respect and creativity, and I bring these values to the therapeutic relationship. I value each person that comes to counselling, acknowledging that everyone is an individual with different needs and values. I know and believe, in the difference that counselling can make in people’s lives. I also believe in helping people find the difference that makes a difference.
